Tropea and Rome

After DC and NYC (click for pics), I returned to Italy to spend the rest of spring break and Easter with the fam in Calabria, a region in southern Italy. Was way overfed by my grandma, who makes the best food on earth, and went on a day trip to Tropea. Tropea is famous all over Italy for its sweet onions and ice cream (not together, obviously!) so we had to try those. We stopped at a seaside restaurant for lunch and had a feast; impeccable sea food, onion omelette, pasta with sword fish and then tartufo ice cream.. hhmmm yes, please!

Also, look at those views! The town is placed entirely on top of a cliff, so there are terraces with killer views around every corner. I'm going back with friends this summer and I can't wait to try on those beaches! On the drive back, in the countryside in the middle of nowhere, we stopped to buy wild strawberries, 'fave' beans and liquorice liquor from these old ladies and we ended up basically sharing our family histories. These are the little things I love about southern Italy.

The rest of the time in southern italy I bathed in the much-missed sun, went out with my cousins and ate too much of my easter eggs and grandma's lasagna, mozzarella and cakes.

We then drove back up to Rome, and I had such a lovely, relaxed last week of holiday there.
I went out and about in the center and took streetstyle photos for Beyond Retro, drove around in my good ol' Fiat 500 (and didn't kill anyone!), found new markets to shop in, pigged out on tonnarelli cacio e pepe (Rome's best pasta along with carbonara) and went to a super quirky Salvador Dali exhibition.
You'd think I'd be used to it by now, but every single time I walk through Rome I look around and it takes my breath away how beautiful it is. So proud of my gorgeous hometown!

ps. I just found out I will finally get to go back to Vienna from the 24th of May till the 27th. Yay, finally! I missed it so much!

pps. my tickets to see Coldplay live in Coventry on the 29th of May arrived today! They're so purrty!

Anyway, I am off to a weekend in London tomorrow morning as a break from all the uni work. Gonna stay at Anna's and we want to have nice lunches and raid Topshop together (not, we're both broke) and just have a chilled weekend.
